Exterior vs Interior Doors Print E-mail
Interior Door

The main difference between interior and exterior doors is somewhat obvious. Interior doors are constructed to meet the standards and requirements for the inside of a home while exterior doors are constructed to meet the standards and requirements for the outside of the home.

For example, exterior doors need to be weatherproofed to keep air and water from infiltrating the home while interior doors do not. Exterior doors also tend to be stronger and feature heavy duty locking mechanisms to prevent intruders from breaking into a home. Generally speaking there isn't much of a security concern for doors in the interior of the house and therefore interior doors are of a lighter construction and feature simple locking systems, if they have a lock at all.pineview_17.jpg

Another major difference between exterior and interior doors is the type of finish applied to the door. Interior doors are not subject to the same harsh elements that exterior doors are. Exterior doors must be finished with high quality stains or paint to prevent unsightly damage from the effects of moisture and sunlight.

Interior and exterior doors are available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and styles. Browse the door section of our website for more information on door products available from Heritage Millwork and Windows or contact a sales representative today.
